Hi Freg,

'Geoffrey' pipes do show up on Ebay and such places... I think they are made in Pakistan and there is lots of information you should read about Pipes from that country. If you do not find this information in Uilleann Forum then search at Chiff & Fipple's Uilleann pipes forum.

I would like to make perfectly clear that I am a pipemaker and my christian name is Geoffrey but I have nothing whatsoever to do with these 'Geoffrey' pipes that are sold on line.

Good luck with your search for a decent half set for a $1000! I do not think it possible to find a new Half Set worthy of your time and effort to learn at the price you suggest.

Avoid - total waste of money and do not even burn that well so a complete loss even as firewood. They are made in Pakistan. I am a pipe maker and have seen far too many of these sets brought by those who are unfortunate enough to have thought they have got themselves a bargain. Yes they can be got to work after a fashion but the time taken makes it uneconomic and the end result is far from satisfactory. Save up a bit more cash and look for an established maker who produces a good budget / entry level practice / starter set. Drones can be added later as you become more proficient. David Daye or Pat Sky would be suggestions as makers for some one in the USA

If in any doubt read this http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=34434
