If you do make a reed with a very wide lip opening ,is there anything you can do other than a bridle to bring it down?

Thanks for the advice. I agree that the best way to learn about reeds is by trying to put them together. There are many 'off the shelf' recipes available on the internet, which I have found helpful. But as an experimentalist I'm more interested in working out my own method to suit my own chanter and playing requirements and exploring the ideas that occur to me as I go along. I don't claim to have the answers - just 1001 questions 8)
