regulator prototyping

Post by piperwannabe » Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:07 pm

I recently came across David Daye's article on prototyping chanter bores, but I am wondering if I could use the same methods for prototyping regulators. That in mind, I am wondering whether or not regulators are more or less an extension of the chanter bore. I've read in Pat Sky's book that if a reed does not work in the chanter then it may work in the baritone regulator.

Any thoughts?

On my D set, the bass reg reed ressembles the chanter reed but is a little longer. The same size stable is used in both but the reed head is longer on the bass reg reed. The tenor and bari regulators use reeds whose measurements are closer to flat chanter reeds.
