Finger G# on D Chanter?

Hello,

I thought that I could easily look this up, but have had no luck.

Is it possible to play an upper octave G# on a D chanter?

And, if so, how is it fingered?

Sincere thanks,

A.C.

I would say try the same half-holing thing with the third finger of left hand as in the first octave. But much more difficult in the second octave because of pressure control issues. What you will get is a subdued flattened A - a bit like a bent note on a harmonica. But as a passing note ornament it could sound quite nice - with a flexible reed and a subtle bag arm and the finger in just the right position 8) .

Hello,

With apology for my delay in getting back to you, please accept my thanks.

Indeed, it's a tricky move, but I already succeed at a rate of about .0001% so things will only get better from this point forward.

All the best,

A.C.

As long as you're making progress… It's a tricky move indeed.
