Uilleann Technique Recources

Post by robertson » Sun Aug 31, 2014 1:10 pm

I apologize if this question has been asked, but does anyone know of any online sources that can guide a beginner through the different movements of the UP? I know a teacher is the way to go, but I live in an area with an extremely limited supply of pipers, and can't seem to understand the crans, barks, rolls, and backstitches when explained in words. I am from a GHB backround and am already familiar with grace notes/ cuts and pats/taps, but some of these things are more complicated. Thanks for your advice.

The best place to start is with the uilleann pipers association - Na Píobairí Uilleann. They have instructional DVDs, plus loads of on-line videos, both modern and historic. Membership also gets you a discount on the cost of many piping CDs and books, as well.

Well worth the price of admission.

where are you located? there may be a piper near you that you don't know about. We hide under rocks and in the back of closets...
