Interesting topic.

My set (Kevin Thompson body, Bourke chanter, African blackwood, brass, fake ivory but a mahogny solid stock) weighs in a 6lbs.

I have heard that Froment sets can weigh up to 12lbs, concert pitch ones anyway.

Thanks for all the advice lads!

The eye lids are back to normal now and I'll stay away from cocobolo for a little while. I've turned a load of ebony and rosewood billets down and they're resting up for a good few months. I'm kept going with the whistles for now.

thanks again!

Wood Allergies

I've made a few chanters and a set of drones from cocobola with no problems at all. But yesterday I made a couple of drone guill bodies (ala the Tim Britton/Peter Hunter style) and my right eye looks like I've been stung by a bee! Can anyone recommend a barrier cream that works well, or should I jus...

johnny burke is another one that comes to mind and I have not seen that much written about his work. I believe davy spillane and seth galleghers work is based on these. anyone out there know of any dimensions for johnny burke pipes? I have 2 chanters made by Johnny Bourke circa 1983. They are heave...

The tune on Pat D'Arcys myspace page is Ag Criost an tSiol. It has no connection to May Morning Dew.
It's a slow enough tune, you may be able to pick the notes out from the recording.
Give it a shot.

You could try making the keys from sheet.

Image

you can see how the hubs for the axel are made by folding the brass.

I wonder if others have had sucess with this method.

That's a lateral trade at best
I agree. Kirks D chanters are tonally superb and always bang on in tune.
here's a great opportunity for someone to pick up a quality chanter with absolutely no wait.
And for a great price too!

as well as one other piper whose name I missed.
There were 2 at the begining of the show. Conor McKeon with the ebony and silver O'Briain set and Sean Garvey with the boxwood and brass O'Briain set.

Haven't a clue of the name of the tune though....

I've had good luck with the brass from here

http://www.smallparts.com/products/desc ... s/ttrb.cfm

I've used the 'heavy wall' grade with good results. Small Parts are good with delivery times and very now and again they'll email a 10 or 20% off coupon.

I knew Tom, he was a gentleman. He lived next door to Matt Kiernan in Cabra and made bags and bellows' for him as well as a few chanters and drones Tom made me a hand stitched leather bag when I was about 15 and to prove its quality he would inflate it and then have me stand on it! Tom's 2 sons Seam...
