Re: Chris Bayley

Just to say I am OK, have not had an actual heart attack and should not be changing over to making harps for a while yet :D Problem looks like severe inflamation of the Pericardium causing pain, some rather strange ECG traces (mimicking an MI) and Bradycardia (Slowed heart beat) and further investig...

Re: Charles Roberts Bass Drone

Hi Pascal Charles should be at the Boulegan festival, St Jean du Gard, Languedoc at Easter. He has moved to Spain and is still making pipes and I think his email may have changed. From sets I have had in the workshop his work is fine and usually works well. If you cannot get to Boulegan I am going a...

Re: Cane dust allergies?

Not to me and I make a lot of reeds. For around 4 to 5 years I have had an allergy that has been gradually getting worse and doctors plus the 'experts, at the hospital have put it down to the woods I use. It has become so debilitating over the past couple of years that a few months ago they finally ...

Re: NPU calendar Taylor set

The key on the top of the stock is to do a quick release of air from the bag to stop the blowpipe valve sounding if the bag deflates slowly. The pressure release key is not original and was fitted by Michael Carney who also gave the keys their saw tooth edging. Touhey in his hints to amateur pipers ...

Re: Museum chanter

Two bores and just one set of tone holes and by Scott of London. Robert Reid made similar chanters as did Malcolm MacGregor. One bore is dedicated as the chanter and other may be a regulator or a drone that can be varied by use of the key. Made a copy some years back of an example by Reid in the Bla...

Re: pipemaking Machinery

Depends upon your budget. Lathe is all that is required along with a selection of hand tools but other powered tools make operations a lot easier. An essential item is a mask and face shield with an air filter as a lot of the timbers used in pipemaking can cause problems especially when generating d...

Re: newbies start here - New to the uilleann pipes?

The pipes they are offering are made in Pakistan and should be avoided Best advice is to look for a good quality second user set - try Pat D'Arcy's website http://www.uilleannobsession.com/diary_2008.html or go to the NPU website and look for a maker that is as near as possible - list here http://83...

Re: A Review of the "Geoffrey" Uilleann Bagpipe

I've seen two of these buggers in my remote neck of the woods in the last year. You are lucky indeed - I suffer a much greater number but am just a few miles from a main seller of the things. The 3 holed main stock can be reused - just bore it out as a hollow stock and plug the ends. ID of the holl...

Pakistani Pipes and Ebay

These are a big problem both to the purchaser and also to the pipemaker that has to deal with callers who expect a magic wand to be waved and have them working perfectly within a few minutes. Probably the best thing to do as Ebay have so far refused to take the necesary action is to write a buyers g...
