Re: tone hole undercut

Ehank you for that. Your comments about c# and c natural will be very helpful, as you may have seen in another post I had been having problems in that area. I discovered bore problems which I rectified with a new reamer. I have a much closer c nat to c# now but was a little unclear how to improve it...

Re: tone hole undercut

Thank you Bill. I too have stolen it. I certainly caught the gist of it but I think I will need to read it several more times to fully understand it. Its saved in my pipemaking folder for reference.

Cheers

Re: tone hole undercut

I think the point here is he wants to try it and is looking for a little guidance on how best to tackle the job. I too would be very interested is any replies as for me it is currently, to paraphrase someone else, the final frontier and I would like to boldly go........ :D

Re: The Kenna sets

Yeah, thanks for that. That is the original set from the SRS journals I believe. I have a copy of that set here, as yet unreeded. The design is very clever and it was really good fun to make. I did need a few attempts to get the stock right it is much smaller than you might expect it to be and there...

The Kenna sets

I am becoming increasingly interested in the works of Kenna senior and Junior. Is there any more pipe data for any of their work? Where were they based? Where could I find out more about them or see any of their work? I know that Ronan Browne has a set of seniors but who has a set of Timothys?

Re: Accuracy of vernier

I might just have a go then as you describe. I had never even used a metal lathe untila month or two ago. Thanks to your reamer making article I have produced one d bit reamer that I am delighted with. The accuracy wont be all that great but compared to what I had before its amazing. I could probabl...

Re: Accuracy of vernier

Thanks for the replies. When I got my metal lathe it came with a box of bits. I fished out the digital calipers believing at the time that I was sorted for accurate measurement. How wrong can you be? It wasnt until a few days ago when I was messing about measuring that I suddenly noticed the reading...

Accuracy of vernier

Ive just ordered a micrometer, but due to the weather its not going to arrive any time soon. I know digital verniers are pretty useless for reamer making but I was raking in a box of old tools and found a mitutoyo manual vernier. Would this be anywhere near good enough to attempt reamer making or sh...

Kenna C throat position?

I am about to make the reamers for the Kenna C chanter but the actual throat position isnt mentioned. There must be a section of parallel bore at 3,8mm before the conical bore begins. Can anyone please confirm if this is the case.

Does anyone have any contact info for Ken Macleod? I would like some extra info on the Timothy Kenna set from SRS.

Thanks

Re: Medir and Sampson cane

Ive just ordered a box of Josephs cane. The cane I have left I got from Medir about fourteen years ago, and it was hard then so you can imagine what its like now. It just occurred to me as I sat with another split reed that cane probably hardens with age. Ted, I promise to try yours next and also Mi...

Best way to make a spoon bit?

I need to enlarge the bore of a chanter just above the c# hole. What is the prescribed method for making a spoon bit to do it? The chanter is otherwise great(my own make so Im not destroying a good one) hard d good, back d solid. Just c# is flat.

Thanks

Cant find David Daye mainstock page

Ive just finished a David Daye concert c penny chanter. I have decided to make some drones in acetal and am going to use the drawing from the Timothy Kenna set in the SRS journals. Drones will be black acetal with white acetal mounts(ick). I will also make a vinyl bag for them. To stay true to the D...
