There's also the Robert Reid 6-drone "presentation set," which has two stands of drones (controlled by separate switches) one tuned D-a-d, the other G-d-g. I think Chris Bayley makes copies of that set, but I've never heard one. No E. There's a Robert Reid 6 drone set in the Glasgow piping museum a...

Anyone any thoughts on whether a reed is better to be tied with the maximum tension on the twine (without cracking reed) or whether a lighter binding tension makes the better reed. I think a reed can be designed to need lots of closing or little with tying on but I'm pondering whether it is more spr...

OK I've just put the pipes down and what I actually do when playing this tune is play the E off the leg with conventional fingering in between low D's. It is quick enough not to be a problem tuning wise. That works for me.

Fluorescent lights and machines

An electrician friend told me it could be dangerous to use fluorescent lighting in a workshop as there is the possibility of the frequency of the flickering light and the speed of the machine having a stroboscopic effect to appear that the machine is not turning when it actually is. It sounds like g...

I never quite grasped the bit about instead of screwing the mainstock to a faceplate you could turn a resusable tenon and socket which would be held by glue. When you part it off would you not need to turn a socket again?
