Nyltex suppliers uk?

Is there anywhere in the UK selling nyltex apart from Tandy? I would like to try Tim Brittons method of reedmaking and dont want a million miles of the stuff in case I cant make it work.

Cheers

Re: Brushed Stainless Steel

If you want to go down that path. why not use clear perspex tube so you can see the reeds working?

Re: James kenna drone reeds?

well, what a rewarding experience. I went out last night armed with secateurs and took the dog out into the country. I found some elder around which there was indeed stands of dead wood. I cut quite a bit of the dead and a little of the green as the dead stuff is quite brittle. When I got home I str...

Re: James kenna drone reeds?

Hehe, Yeah that razor is terrifying to watch, I just KNOW what would happen if I tried it. My cut throat is safe in a cupboard and its staying there. How long is the tongue of that reed? The video is a little blurry. It looks short to me.

Re: James kenna drone reeds?

Does anyone have any elder for sale? Mine is too small as yet for reeds and I would have to wait until winter even if it was big enough.

Thanks

James kenna drone reeds?

I've just revisited the early kenna set from srs. I spent the past week making new reamers and today finished a chanter. It really is a lovely sounding chanter which will also have the benefit of restoring marital harmony. I have never had an easier chanter to reed. I was looking at the drones again...

Re: Stephenson narrow bore D staples

Sorry to break in on your thread, but when Head width is spoken about are we referring to slip width as cut or to finished head width as there seems to be (for me at least) about 0.4 to 0.5mm difference. Obviously the finished head is wider.

Re: Sharp C natural

I too had the workshop but not the money. This has been a hobby for many years and I am finally getting results I am happyish with. I dont know if I would ever want to sell pipes, really I just want a full d set and a full flat set( and a narrow bore D perhaps) of my own that play in tune. This is a...

Re: Sharp C natural

Some reeds and/or reed/chanter combinations prefer the C# + G fingers to be raised to get a Cnat, djm Wow spot on the money. I had tried lifting more fingers, but always keeping the c# and f# fingers up. I discovered that lifting my c# and second finger rh up at the same time gives a c nat which is...

Re: Sharp C natural

I am aiming for C natural. It is unkeyed. I play it with the c# finger and the f# finger (index right hand) both up as per Heather Clarke book. It is sharp in both the lower and upper octave

Sharp C natural

I jsut finished a chanter and it plays well in tune apart from C natural. I cant tell if its a reed issue or a chanter issue. I wouldnt know how to flatten C nat on the chanter but could it be a reed issue? Any ideas? And for reference how would I adjust the chanter if it was that that is the proble...

Re: Fun toy: strobe tuner simulator

OK Im a moron. How does one tell how close to the actual note you are? I mean to say how do I tell when the note is exactly on pitch and when it is off? Ive never used a strobe tuner before so am a little unclear.

Thanks
