Re: Looking for PS

I have been working on redesigning a few things to make more of a budget set that I can offer. Check into the site on occasion and see what I have come up with or drop me an email and I can keep you posted.

Re: aaron setunksy pipes

Thanks for the kind words kmag, see you soon around the local scene. To answer the call of sound samples, I did load a new page onto the site for those of you may be curious. I will try to get a good recording of some whistle up this next week. Here is a direct link http://www.irishpipesandwhistles....

Re: Kenna B from SRSJ vol 2

Bill, You sure seem to write things down better than I. I didn't mean to infer that the bores started straight, most do have curve to them. I was trying to convey that sometimes wood changes a bit over time in cross section of the bore and it seems that some of the lumps and bumps seem to be done af...

Re: Kenna B from SRSJ vol 2

Always easier to take a little more off in places than try to add. I have always gone with the theory that no maker in the past started a design with a lumpy, bumpy, and elliptical bore. The wood went that way after completion at some time or after initial reaming the bore was fine tuned some with s...

Re: Looking for PS

Low price and well playing can only mean a David Daye penny chanter set. They always seem to play well no matter where they go and looking at his site the lead time isn't too bad. I know a few other makers (Pat Sky and I can't seem to remember who else specifically) were making budget sets at one ti...

Re: Key making techniques

Most for the uilleann pipmaking community are either hand forged or cut, ground, filed, and smoothed out by hand as hpinson said. As for more modern techniques for key making check out the Buffet Clarinet factory video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DZgoYmbU-w for some different ideas on...

Re: Fine Tuning a Home-Built Irish Whistle

Look into the archives. There is an article on the tuning of an uilleann chanter. It describes the pitches for just tuning.

Re: Drone Reed Binding

Synthetic or cane? If synthetic check out David Dayes site at http://www.daye1.com/reeds/drones/artifdrontip.html

He has a good article on adjusting the tongues. You may need to move the bridal toward the tongue and re-spring the arch.
