Re: Wide reed won't seal on edges??

another thought.... I dissembled the reed and took a long look and how things match up. On thing I noticed is that the reed was sort of deforming in on itself and the other slip in the last few mm of tail angle before it goes parallel. I was wondering if this could be creating a fulcrum that would w...

Wide reed won't seal on edges??

I have gotten to the point now where I can fairly reliably make a copy of one of Brad Angus reeds. They are not quite as good but they are close. So I thought I would try something different. I was intrigued by the Liam O'flynn Rowsome concert D Reed. I found a few references on the internet. What I...

Re: Am I paying attention to the right Reed stuff?

Interesting. The Tim Britton style reeds (from his reed making kit) had brass tubing and the reed length was what you suggested although a bit wider. Interesting though, they would not work in my Angus chanter but did work in the Vignoles chanter. The main difference being the throat of the Angus ch...

Am I paying attention to the right Reed stuff?

I am on reed number 10 now. And its pretty good I think. I find that I am learning with each reed that I make. So I thought that I would created a database of the reeds and their different materials and measurements and then post them on my site here: http://uilleannpipesbeginner.wordpress.com/2013/...

Re: Weird Back D problem... Help?

Your thought about higher reed volume seems correct. I have since used a little longer and little wider reeds that are more typical of the reeds that Brad Angus makes. That seemed to solve the problem for me.

Super Glue Reed Fix Brought Back my Back D

I wrote another post on my blog about how I over sanded AND then cracked my reed (that I made). It ruined the Back D. But applying some super glue brought it back. Note that I am a beginner. This we reed #6 for me. While I had read about fixing a crack with super glue it did not occur to me what the...

My first Successful Reed using Tim Brittons kit... Sort of

I have an earlier post about problems with the back D that I was getting on my Brad Angus Chanter on a the first reeds that I was making with Tim Britton's Deluxe Reed Making kit. Well..... I finally got one working but I had to change the size of the reed, different than what Tim suggested, to work...

Weird Back D problem... Help?

I have a nice Brad Angus Concert D pitch chanter that he says was modeled on an old rowsome. I also have a concert D chanter from Michael Vignoles that I do not play much. Brad has worked with me on a reed for my Angus chanter that plays pretty well. I also have a couple spares that play well but ta...
