Re: Ideal length for neck of pipes bag

I like your thinking. I have wondered myself if you could support the neck with tubing to keep it from pinching off the neck.

Re: FS Uilleann bellows intake valves now on ebay

If you Google Bagpipe Bellows intake valve. Scroll down to Mahogany or Birch Bagpipe inlet vave and click on it. Then you can click on see other items to view the other one. They will work for other type of bagpipe bellows that have a 1" intake hole. Hope that gets you there.

Re: Sharpening

I'm somewhat familiar with lenzites wich this fungus appears to be. I seem to remember them growing on maples or oak trees as well Are these ones also good for sharpening blades?

Re: Medir and Sampson cane

The easiest way to tell cane hardness is with the finger nail. With soft cane your finger nail sinks in a lot further than it does with hard cane. More resistance equals harder cane. There are also numbers you can go by as to how much water cane absorbs but the finger nail test works for me.

Re: cane drone reeds

You might find that if you cut some of the stalks off now where its lower and thicker the stalk will put out two small secondary growth stalks. These will have thicker walls by this winter and might make better reeds.

Re: Medir and Sampson cane

I didnt think it was much cooler around Nimes or Avignon than it was in Figueres which is near Medir's cane fields and I was doing a lot of walking. In fact, I walked from Perpignan to Figueres and beyond.

Re: Medir and Sampson cane

I boucht a batch of cane from Medir last year for GHP reeds. I thought the hardness was perfect for done reeds, however a lot of it was useless. I informed Carles Medir that 140 or so tubes, about 1/4 of the order were unsuitable to use for resale. They had leaf node tear out holes, were bent or too...

Re: cane drone reeds

Been playing the Ghp for over 40 years. We didn't have plastic when I started out. Tried plastic reeds about 20 years ago. They don't come close enough to the sound and feel of the real thing for me. Now that I've committed to learning the uilleann pipes that's what I'll be using. Since I learned re...
