As We Met!

There is a new book out, written by Brid Talty. The title is As We Met! It is the history and culture of Miltown Malbay from 1880 to 1980 told through the life of uilleann piper and flute player Martin Talty. It sounds like it might be a very intersting book. Here's a suggestion I received when in your position. Play long tones. When I started I would play a note and then hold it as long as I could, trying to keep the pitch of the note steady. Do the same thing with the upper octave. You will probably do the death grip and have to fill the bag to burstin...

I would agree that it wouldn't take very many "bad" sets for the piping community to notice. I would rather wait for a quality set than get a substandard set quickly, and I'm sure most will agree.

I play on an Angus Practice Set in D. No rushes and I have never taped a hole. His work is top notch. Although I have never played his regulators, I have never heard of any issues, plus I think if you wanted five regs on your set, he is the one that could make it happen. :lol:

I live in a similar climate. Get a good humidifier, and don't mess around with the reed unless you have a spare. I try to keep the humidity level in my room at about 40% which works for my pipes. Don't try to cheat and bring the pipes from dry air to the bathroom after a shower either. It's a good w...
